Does your child have an overbite? If so, your child will be excited to know that we can treat it using the twin block appliance instead of traditional headgear.

Twin block

What is a twin block?

A twin block brace is a pair of functional braces that work together to correct overbites. Your top teeth should rest 2-4mm in front of your bottom teeth. If the front teeth jut out even further than usual, we can gently correct it with the twin block appliance.

In most cases, the treatment takes around 9-12 months to complete.

Adjusting to your new twin blocks

Getting twin blocks can be an adjustment for your child. Talking and eating may feel awkward at first, but their mouth will adjust to the new appliance and their daily activities will become easier. We recommend having your child read out loud so they can adjust more quickly.

Keeping the twin blocks clean is also very important. We will show you and your child how to keep the appliances clean and protect their oral health during treatment.

Are twin blocks painful?

Your child may experience some slight discomfort while their mouth adjusts to the twin blocks, but this will be temporary. In the meantime, you can manage any discomfort with over the counter painkillers, such as paracetamol.
