Sometimes, your mouth needs a little extra help with tooth movement. Whether you just have a couple teeth out of place, or need some adjustments before treatment with braces, a removable appliance can help.

What is a removable appliance?

A removable appliance is used in simple cases to move the teeth to new positions using gentle pressure. It consists of an acrylic plate with flexible wires and springs attached that help to guide your teeth into the correct positions.

How often should I wear my removable appliance?

Removable appliances should be worn at all times and only taken out for cleaning purposes. You should even wear your appliance while eating in order to make sure your treatment is successful.

Make sure not to play with your removable appliance (such as clicking it up and down) as this can break your brace.

Can I eat and speak normally with a removable appliance?

Yes, while it may take a little while for your mouth to adjust to your removable appliance, any speech changes should go away within a couple of days. You will be able to eat normally with your removable appliance – just remove it and clean it after each meal.
